REVIEW: Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern

Title: Sh*t My Dad Says
Author: Justin Halpern

Goodreads Synopsis: In the vein of bestselling humor collections by Chelsea Handler, David Sedaris, and Laurie Notaro, “Sh*t My Dad Says” is a chaotic, hilarious, true portrait of a father-son relationship from a major new comic voice.

This was a quick read.  It was split up into short stories and then just particular sayings from the author’s father.  There’s really not much to say about it.  But the father is a pretty funny guy.  He tends to enjoy the word “shit”.  The short stories are written well and are infused with humor.   I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from Halpern.

    1. I had never read the twitter account (in fact, I recently deactivated mine). But I know my dad was reading the book and I remember seeing a little bit of an episode here and there of the TV show.

I think he’s new so he definitely has room for improvement (he’s no David Sedaris), but it was a quick, entertaining read.

      1. I found each little saying fun to read, but the book was just hard to read. It lacked cohesion or something. At least for me it was hard to get a good reading flow without kinda skimming stuff.

        1. I didn’t really look at it as a story, more just snippets of experience with the author’s dad. Have you read other books similar to this? (any David Sedaris, for example? Or even Tucker Max or Chelsea Handler?)
