Book Beginnings on Fridays is a weekly meme hosted by Gilion over at Rose City Reader. She recently took over this weekly meme. Basically, we post the opening sentence for whatever book we are reading and what we think about it. I’ve never really done anything like that, and only occasionally pay attention to the first sentence of book…usually only if it really appeals to me. Clicking the image above will take you to Gilion’s Book Beginning for today.
The house was astir with activity, which was something most unusual, for its owner, Mr. Richard Lowell, preferred his home to remain a very dour and torpid place.”
The Twelfth Enchantment – David Liss
I can honestly say I don’t care for the above-mentioned Mr. Lowell. Or a few of the other characters we meet within the first 20 pages. But overall, the story is picking up and I’m enjoying it. There’s a bit of mystery and magic so far and I’m only 80 pages in. Looking forward to seeing what else is happening!
